Since we are going to be on this journey together, where do we begin? I think, as you will, the best place to begin in this situation is at the end! The end of the old way of thinking, the end of borrowing money you don't have, for stuff you do not need. I know this doesn't sound very fun or exciting. Certainly vacations to exotic lands and giant 56 inch TVs and jet skis or whatever it is you can imagine you need are a lot more fun. But ask yourself this: How fun or exciting is it being buried under a mountain of debt that gets harder to pay off every month? How fun is it when the phone rings and there is a person on the other end who wants to know why you stopped paying off your loan to them? What you are going to do is change your behavior and in doing so change your life. Take ownership of your financial situation and begin to change it for the better so that you will not have to answer to any other person regarding your finances except yourself (and your spouse if you're married). If credit debt is a problem, then learn to stop using the credit cards! Cut them up and throw away the pieces! Many have done this - you are not alone. It is completely possible for a person to live happily without a credit card. Wouldn't you like to be able to use your money to build wealth for yourself and your family? Wouldn't you like to be debt free? When you make the choice to go debt free you are making the choice to live a better life.
